Comments:
A powerful cyclone struck Fiji on the night of 28 January and morning of 29 January. Fiji?s National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) reports that cyclone ?Gene? caused widespread damage on the main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as well as on Taveuni, Yasawa, Mamanuca and other outlying island groups. The cyclone has gained strength as it approaches Vanuatu and a cyclone warning has been issued for all of southern and central southern Vanuatu. New Caledonia has also issued a cyclone alert.
