Nairobi has witnessed an increase in response to fire disasters in the first quarter of 2011. At least 11 fatalities and more than 472 injuries have been reported as a result of four major incidences. Numerous smaller fires were also reported but with minimal casualties. The fires, whose causes have often been difficult to ascertain, have affected at least 4,667 households and rendered them in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.
