Currently 3323 refugees, mostly women and children, have been pre-registered at the frontier between Cameroon and Nigeria, while 830 person (195 families) have been transferred to a refugee camp set up by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Minawao, a locality situated some 18 km from Mokolo, headquarters of the Mayo Tsanaga Division and some 50 km from Maroua, headquarters of the Far North Region.
On 25 March 2013, there was another heavy influx of refugees from the Central African Republic (CAR) into the Eastern region of Cameroon. These refugees were fleeing clashes between Seleka rebels and the army of the Bozize regime. |
