Comments: Moderate to heavy rain has been falling in the Ica region provinces since 14 January 2017, causing floods and landslides that have damaged homes, schools, health facilities, cultivated land and roads. At around 6:00 pm on 24 January 2017, heavy rains caused the Cansas stream in La Tinguiña district to flood, which, had been inactive for 19 years according to the National Water Authority (ANA; this event was accompanied by landslides and the overflowing of the Achirana River, mainly affecting the Chanchajalla area in La Tinguiña, where more than 100 homes were damaged or totally destroyed. Families were forced to sleep in the streets or move to relatives' homes in other districts, and most lost their belongings and shelters to the landslide. Two people have been injured; however, no deaths have been reported so far.
