Comments: Hato formed as a tropical depression near the Philippines before eventually becoming a tropical storm on August 20. It increased in intensity and became a Category 3 typhoon before making landfall in China on August 23. According to Xinhua News Agency, Typhoon Hato is the strongest typhoon of the year, having destroyed over 6,425 houses and damaged 50,000 hectares of farmland
