Since the beginning of January 2018, the temperatures have fallen below normal in many parts of Morocco. The worst hit parts have been the inner parts of the country, mainly the High Atlas and Middle Atlas areas, over 900 meters above the sea level, where temperatures have hit as low as -5 Celcius degrees. Many roads have been cut off due to snow, leaving many communities isolated. The freezing weather has caused enonomic losses and disrupted livelihoods. There has also been an increase of cold-related diseases.
