Floods and landslides in Indonesia's Aceh and North Sumatra provinces have killed at least 80 people and forced tens of thousands to flee to higher ground, authorities in the region said on Dec. 24th, 2006.
Landslides triggered by the rains killed another 21 in the province's Muarasipongi district, Hashim Nasution, deputy mayor of Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra, told Elshinta radio.

Three (3) people were reported dead from floods in Bener Meriah, Pondok Baru village, and Permata Sub District. A landslide blocked the road between Bireuen and Bener Meriah, at Cot Panglima, Juli Sub District, approximately 30 km from Bireuen. Roads are also blocked in Kuala Simpang, Aceh Tamiang due to heavy floods. In Aceh Utara people in various sub districts were forced to leave their houses due to heavy flooding (at least 300 households but no detailed information at this stage).
