DR-2023-000142-SYR Drought Syrian Arab Rep After more than ten years of conflict in Syria, access to water has become one of the most prominent humanitarian challenges, which is exacerbated by climate change. According to severity scale updated in June 2023, all of Al-Sweida's districts are ranked at levels 3 to 5, meaning they are facing a major, severe, or critical problem in water needs. The Al-Sweida governorate faced during this period a sharp decline in the water availability, the causes of which appear to be the intertwining of many factors: Loss of the main source of drinking water since 2012 the increase of the population between 2010 and 2022, increasing the demand on water and pressure on resources, and the decrease in the maintenance and technical level of logistical operating equipment. The level of the surface dams has decreased to a hazardous level and with some close to being completely dry.

DR-2023-000130-FSM Drought Micronesia, Federated States El Nino is a recurring climate pattern that triggers changes in rainfall. Rainfall during the El Niño year starts declining as soon as August in the western Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Dryness increases through October and November and peaks in January in the year after El Niño. Rainfall in western FSM can be as much as 50-60% below average from January through April in the year after El Niño. Based on these predictions, it is expected that FSM will experience peak drought conditions during the first quarter of 2024, with a likelihood that the El Nino declared by September. Impact of drought will be significantly experienced should the following parameters be met: two consistent weeks without rainfall and the water sounding informs over 50% of community water reservations will be less than 50% capacity. In the unlikely event, Government declares a state of emergency for drought before those parameters are met, MRCS will escalate their response.
WF-2023-000129-SYR Wild fire Syrian Arab Rep Multiple fires have broken out around the coastal and central areas and in Syria. Possible reasons behind these fires differ, including the warm eastern winds that are active during this time of the year in Syria, in addition during the summer there are many dry herbs that burn quickly and the moisture content of the trees is less than what is possible during periods of the year, in addition to the high temperature during this period. It is not excluded that there are fires caused by human errors and the intensity of the fires increased from 15 July 2023, which included the Homes Governorate, Hama Governorate, and Lattakia governorate. Most of the fires were in rugged mountainous remote areas. The intensity and size of bushfires in some areas have led to the creation of their own weather systems, generating pyro cumulonimbus clouds, trapping heat, and generating strong wind, in turn sparking further fires. High winds have also helped the bushfires to spread, with some fires jumping over highways and roads. These fires led to material and environmental damage, as a few homes of a number of residents were torched, in addition to burning agricultural crops on which they depend as a main source of livelihood, in addition to burning a large part of the vegetation, forests , and natural reserves.
