FL-2023-000249-AGO Flood Angola Successive days of cumulative heavy rains were witness in Angola which brought significant floods on 30th November. According to the Angolan Civil Protection and Fire service (SPCB) preliminary data estimates 30 deaths, 5,292 affected households (26,460 people). Besides 10,895 households have seen their crops under water. In total, 15 of the 18 Provinces are affected, with the most critical being Luanda, Huambo, Bie, Malanje and Cuanza Norte. The Government continues with Assessments at country level. 
VO-2023-000248-PNG Volcano Papua New Guinea On 20 November around 5.30 UTC (16.30 local time) the Ulawun volcano, located in the northern New Britain Island in eastern Papua New Guinea, approximately 125 km south-west of Rabaul Town, started to erupt. The explosive eruption produced a plume that reached up to 18 km above sea level dispersing ash to the west. A significant pyroclastic flow occurred during the activity. Media report, as of 21 November, a number of preventively evacuated people across the area nearby the volcano and some canceled flights from the Hoskins Town airport. On 20 November the aviation colour code has been raised to red from the Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) and as of 21 November at 7.00 UTC it remains still in force.  
VO-2023-000247-IDN Volcano Indonesia On 3 December, Mount Merapi located on the border between the province of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, increased its volcanic activity with volcanic ash emission and volcanic rocks. The ash column was observed 3,000 m above the peak. According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) and the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), as of 3 December, at least 11 people died, nine have been injured, 28 are still missing and a total of 75 people have been affected.

VO-2023-000243-ISL Volcano Iceland Magma has been forcing its way up in the last fortnight in the vicinity of Grindavík town in Iceland, resulting in constant seismic activity. Relative damage in infrastructure. The town of Grindavík (3800 people) was evacuated Friday 10 November. Volcanic eruption is expected in the area in the coming days. Icelandic Red Cross is responsible for registration, shelter, temporary housing and MHPSS.

From 11 November 2023, the flooding increased causing deaths and damage to major infrastructure in Dar Es Salaam, Kigoma, Kagera, Geita and Unguja.

DR-2023-000238-TON Drought Tonga A drought has been declared for the Tongatapu and ‘Eua islands. Drought alerts are in effect for Niuafo'ou and Niuatoputapu, and warnings are in force for Ha'apai and Vava'u. Until the end of 2023, rainfall deficiencies are expected for Vava'u, Ha'apai, Tongatapu, ‘Eua, Niuafo'ou and Niuatoputapu. 
FL-2023-000236-DOM Flood Dominican Republic According to media, as of 9 November, five fatalities have been reported due to the flooding of the Fulani River in Monsignor Nouel Province in central Dominican Republic, three people are missing and seven have been rescued. Moreover, in La Altagracia Province, at least 12 houses have been damaged due to the Anamuyita River overflow, while the overflow of the Massacre River, in western Dajabón Province, caused damages in the nearby Juana Méndez Municipality in North-East Department, in Haiti.

CE-2023-000234-MMR Complex Emergency Myanmar On October 27, an intensified conflict occurred between the ethnic armed groups known as the Three Brotherhood Alliance's “Operation 1027” and the Myanmar Armed Forces (MAF) in the north of Myanmar's Shan State, targeting the Chinese border town of Kokang. Another armed conflict escalated in seven townships in Rakhine State and Chin on November 16. Clashes are ongoing in five states/regions, out of seven in Myanmar, namely Northern Shan, Rakhine, Southern Chin, Sagaing, and Kayah. Martial law has been imposed on additional townships in multiple states and the main forms of transportation between Sittwe and Yangon are closed. 
CE-2023-000233-AFG Complex Emergency Afghanistan On 3 October 2023, the Government of Pakistan announced plans to repatriate “illegal foreigners” who do not leave Pakistan voluntarily and must leave the country by 1 November, after which they will or face deportation. It is estimated that 1.3 million undocumented Afghans presently reside in Pakistan. The pronunciation announcement by Pakistani authorities has led to a significant increase in the number of people returning to Afghanistan, because of fear of arrest and eventual deportation. Reports from across the border indicate that authorities are demolishing unauthorized settlements occupied by unregistered foreigners. The Afghans who are coming back to their country will need immediate need in term of shelter, WASH , Health , MHPSS and livelihood support services.  
FL-2023-000232-COL Flood Colombia Since 30 October, there have been heavy and prolonged rains outside the normal range in the Colombian Caribbean, affecting the north of the country, especially in the coastal area, with greater intensity in the departments of La Guajira, Bolivar, Magdalena and Atlántico. According to the National Unit for Risk and Disaster Management (UNGRD), because of the rains, there have been multiple floods, landslides, communication problems and families affected. 
FL-2023-000231-BDI Flood Burundi Intense rainfall of 26 to 27 October resulting in strong winds and floods that affected Cibitoke. Other floods were reported earlier but from assessment done by NS on 2 November, Cibitoke remains the most affected so far. 1,590 people are identified as affected in the communes of Buganda, Murwi and Rugombo in Cibitoke. In the province and more precisely in the three communes, following the landslides recorded and floods that impacted Cibitoke, hundreds of households are displaced and have found refuge in host households. 
TC-2023-000230-BGD Tropical Cyclone Bangladesh Seven people died in Bangladesh due to the impact of cyclone Midhili, which has lashed the South Asian country with heavy rain and strong wind. The cyclone left a trail of destruction in the coastal Bangladeshi districts after making landfall on Friday afternoon. 
FL-2023-000229-ETH Flood Ethiopia Heavy rainfall has been affecting southern and eastern Ethiopia, in particular the Somali Region, since early November, causing floods, flash floods and the overflow of some rivers, particularly the Genale River, that have resulted in casualties and damage. Media reports, as of 7 November, 20 fatalities and more than 12,000 displaced families across the Somali Region. In addition, several bridges collapsed and some roads have been damaged across the affected area. Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast over the whole Somali Region.

OT-2023-000226-CYP Other Cyprus ​​In the aftermath of the ‘strife-crisis' that broke out, on 7th October 2023, between Hamas and Israel, Cyprus began to receive Third Country Nationals (TCNs), who were being evacuated from the region, on several occasions. Due to the escalation of the tension, during the past weeks (after 25 October 2023), the Government of Cyprus expressed its fears that a surge of evacuation waves would be imminent from the neighbouring countries such as Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. It has been conveyed that up to 100,000 TCNs (and by extent through their respective Embassies) may use Cyprus as a transit (LINK). Already military troops from several countries i.e., USA, Germany and the Netherlands are already in place in Cyprus, waiting to take action in the area, if needed.​

EP-2023-000224-TZA Epidemic Tanzania The Ministry of Health in the United Republic of Tanzania notified the World Health Organization about a cholera outbreak in three regions, namely Arusha, Kigoma, and Mara, in July 2023. On 11 September 2023, Mara region recorded 13 suspected cases, which were subsequently laboratory-confirmed at the Tanzania National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), followed by five confirmed cholera cases which were reported in Kigoma region on 13 September 2023. During epidemiological week 40 (ending 8 October 2023), 16 new cases were reported, including 14 in Arusha, and two in Mara region with no reported deaths. As of 8 October 2023, a total of 268 cholera cases with nine deaths.

Heat Wave,Bangladesh: Based on the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) data source dated 21 April 2024, severe to very severe, heatwave was sweeping some districts of the country where mild-moderate heatwave was sweeping over most of the districts of the country. BDRCS forecast monitoring report indicates maximum temperatures exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, with the heat index surpassing 38 for two or more consecutive days. global forecasts from sources such as the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the Global Forecast System (GFS) predict temperatures to remain above 38 degrees for two or more consecutive days, along with high heat indices in Dhaka starting from April 21, 2024, and like to continue till 30th April 2024. On 24 April 2024 severe heatwave (>=40 degree Celsius) was observed in the district of Rajshahi, Pabna, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jeshore and Patuakhali. On 26 April 2024, Bangladesh set all-time heatwave record as the Meteorological Office recorded 24 days of heatwave during the month of April breaching previous 23 days of heatwave in 2019. According to BMD dated on April 27, 2024 severe to very severe heatwave (>=40 degree Celsius) has been observed in the district of Rajshahi, Pabna, Chuadanga, Natore, Chapai Nawabganj, Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Jashore, Meherpur and Bogura. Moderate heat wave (>38- 39.9 degree Celsius) is sweeping over the district of Bagerhat, Satkhira, Barguna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Jhalokathi, Bhola, Pirojpur, Sherpur, Mymensingh, Sirajganj, Tangail, Jamalpur ,Thakurgaon, Joypurhat, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Faridpur, Madaripur, Magura, Manikganj, Rajbari, Gazipur, Gopalganj, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Naogaon, Gaibandha and it may spread. According to the observed heatwave most impacted divisions are Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Dhaka and Barisal. The fluctuation of day and night temperature is visible, and the discomfort may increase due to of moisture incursion. According to the long-range forecast of ECMWF, the ongoing heatwave is likely to persist in the month of May
