FL-2026-000033-ETH Flood Ethiopia GDACS - Medium humanitarian impact in for Ethiopia.Heavy rain in the Ethiopia Highlands caused flooding and landslides in the South Ethiopia Regional State in mid-March 2026. Local officials said in a statement of 12 March that heavy rainfall triggered landslides in 4 woredas - Gacho Baba, Kamba, Bonke, and Arba Minch - in Gamo Zone, South Ethiopia Region, killing 70 people. The disaster displaced 575 households (3,480 people) and destroyed 190 homes. Media reports, quoting local police, said hat as many as 128 people were feared missing as of 12 March. Flooding of the Kulfo River in Arba Minch city damaged over 30 buildings.  
CE-2026-000032-AFG Complex Emergency Afghanistan From the evening of 26 February and through the first week of March 2026, airstrikes and border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan affected ten provinces: Kabul, Kandahar, Khost, Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Parwan, Paktia, and Paktika. The escalation followed several days of rising tensions, during which airstrikes in Nangarhar and Paktika caused civilian casualties and Afghan forces launched counterattacks against Pakistani military positions along the border. On 27 February, Pakistan's Defence Minister publicly declared the country was in a state of "open war" with Afghanistan. Armed clashes continued between Afghanistan's de facto security forces and the Pakistani military in Khost, Kunar, Nangarhar, Paktia, and Paktika. Airstrikes were also reported in Gardez (Paktia), Jalalabad (Nangarhar), Kabul, Kandahar, and Mehtarlam (Laghman). On the morning of 1 March, Jalalabad's airport and a police station were struck. As of 4 March, hostilities remained concentrated along border areas but continued to threaten civilian populations across a wide geographic zone. As of the 10 of March, the ARCS reported 97 people killed and 139 injured, along with 121 structures damaged (66 totally, 55 partially), one mosque damaged, and one clinic damaged. From late evening 26 From February 1 to March 5, 2026, UNAMA reported and verified a total of 185 civilian casualties in Afghanistan. This total includes 56 civilians killed and 129 injured due to indirect fire and aerial attacks. Notably, women and children accounted for 55 percent of all civilian casualties. The difference in casualty figures reflects different reporting timelines and methodologies between the two sources.

According to the World Food Program3 , 3.3 million people are currently affected by food insecurity. This deterioration is driven by the long-combined effects of climatic shocks, conflict, displacement, market disruption, and rising food prices, as well as the collapse of purchasing power, high debt, and widespread reliance on negative coping strategies. Markets remain functional, but households cannot afford food.  
FL-2026-000030-COD Flood Congo Democratic Republic GDACS - Medium humanitarian impact in for Democratic Republic of Congo.Local media in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported a landslide at the Gasasa mining site near Rubaya in the North Kivu Province on 03 March 2026. Reports said the landslide was caused by heavy rain. This was not confirmed by other sources. More than 200 people were thought to be working at the mine at the time the landslide struck. As of 04 March, reports differed as to the number of fatalities. Heavy rain during this period caused flooding in other areas of North Kivu Province (reported separately). A landslide at a mining site previously occurred on 28 January 2026 at the Luwowo site, within the Rubaya mining perimeter in Masisi territory, North Kivu Province. The national government blamed illegal, unsafe artisanal mining for the collapse. The area has seen repeated deadly incidents, the government said.

In the past few days, there has been a spike in the number of cases reported daily, with 14 new cases in the past 24 hours, reinforcing Lusaka's role as the current driver of national transmission.

FL-2026-000027-ECU Flood Ecuador On 27 February, authorities declared a 90-day regional state of emergency across five coastal provinces - Guayas, Esmeraldas, Los Ríos, El Oro and Santa Elena - as heavy rains have continued to intensify. As of 26 February, authorities now report more than 1,079 adverse rain-related incidents across 24 provinces, affecting more than 19,335 people and displacing a further 1,314. In the hardest hit areas, flooding and landslides have damaged schools, roads and bridges, affected crops and livestock and are disrupting access to essential services, deepening vulnerabilities and humanitarian needs. Emergency Operations Committees remain active at national and subnational levels, with authorities expanding assistance and strengthening monitoring as moderate to heavy rains are forecast to persist through early March, sustaining the risk of further flooding, landslides and river overflows.

CW-2026-000024-MNG Cold Wave Mongolia Between 21-23 February 2026, severe weather—including strong winds, dust storms, and snowstorms—hit multiple provinces across Mongolia, worsening ongoing dzud conditions and disrupting travel during the busy Lunar New Year period. Winds reached 18-24 m/s, with gusts up to 31 m/s, while temperatures plunged to -30°C to -48°C, causing low visibility, blocked roads, and delays in rescue operations. The storms resulted in five deaths from exposure, one child hospitalized with frostbite, and over 100 people rescued after becoming stranded or lost. More than 10,000 herder households across several provinces remain highly affected, with many isolated due to snow-blocked routes. Livelihood impacts are severe, with over 4,900 livestock reported dead and grazing conditions deteriorating due to repeated snowfall, ice crusting, and depleted fodder reserves—further heightening humanitarian risks for already vulnerable herder communities.

FR-2026-000022-CMR Fire Cameroon On 7 February 2026, a series of large-scale fires affected multiple internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Kolofata, Mayo-Sava Department, Far North Region, Cameroon. The fires occurred in quick succession between 10:00 and 11:45 a.m., initially impacting the Ndaba (Bergerie), Kordo Bergerie, and Camp Lélédé sites, before spreading to Camp Lélédé Tribune, located more than two kilometres away.

As of 28 January 2026, seven mpox cases have been confirmed, all among males aged 16-39 years, with no deaths reported. Four patients have recovered, while three remain under clinical care in designated treatment sites. 
CW-2026-000013-JPN Cold Wave Japan From 21 to 25 January 2026, a persistent strong winter-type pressure pattern persisted over the vicinity of Japan, bringing heavy snowfall to the Sea of Japan side from northern to western Japan, and to inland areas from eastern to western Japan. Subsequently, snowfall continued mainly on the Sea of Japan side, and as of 2 February, Fire and Disaster Management Agency says harsh winter conditions and snow-related accidents over the last 14 days have left 27 people dead.

Epidemiological investigations identified the probable source of infection as participation in a large scale religious gathering attended by approximately 2,000 people from multiple countries in the region, including Mexico, the United States and Central America, as well as participants from all 22 departments of Guatemala.

Local media speculated the landslide was caused by recent heavy rains. In a statement made on 31 January, the national government blamed illegal, unsafe artisanal mining for the collapse. The area has seen repeated deadly incidents, the government said.

On 30 January at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore approximately 210 km west of the town of Vilamasta (north-western Madagascar), with maximum sustained winds of 116 km/h (tropical storm).
