In most of the countries of Central America, rainfall levels fell steadily from June 2009 through the end of the rainy season, affecting the production of staple grains and leading a drop in water levels in major rivers. The areas most affected are located in what is known as the ?Dry Corridor? in Central America, where small-scale farmers have seen their food security threatened.
