Comments: | In the summer of 2013, on the 31st of July, a devastating riverine flood wreaked havoc in the Mae Sot district of Tak province. This natural disaster, characterized by its torrential nature, resulted in considerable losses. Mae Sot, a town situated along the border with Myanmar, found itself in the throes of this catastrophic event. Nearby, across the border, the Myanmar town of Myawaddy also bore the brunt of the disaster, leading to the evacuation of approximately 7,000 residents. The flooding's genesis was attributed to the deliberate opening of floodgates upstream from these two towns, compounding the already dire situation. |
