On December 27, 2010, the island of Bornholm with a population of just under 40,000 faced a life-threatening situation due to a heavy blizzard. Bornholm's news stations went offline, and hundreds of residents found themselves unable to venture outdoors because of the extensive snowfall. Many people had to spend days in sports halls and similar temporary housing facilities, as roads around the island became impassable. In response to the crisis, emergency centers were established to provide assistance with medication, food, and other necessities. The cost of emergency snow removal amounted to a total of 7.2 Million USD.
