Comments:
On 30 December 2021 the government of Sao Tome declared a state of disaster due to the damage caused and called for international assistance at a meeting convening international actors in the country and embassies. The material damage is innumerable and a survey underway with the government's assessment mission will provide an exhaustive list. According to the CONPREC report, bridges have been destroyed, livestock and crops washed away, collapses and landslides, etc. According to the CONPREC report, the bed of Lake Lugi, the mouth of the Douro River and the Lembá River have been washed away. This part of the territory is morphologically very uneven and with a steep slope, which increases the speed of the water and has caused erosion and landslides in all the surrounding localities. The lack of land levelling and dykes spread the damage widely. The entire country has been affected by the floods and current interventions in the country are focused in the capital and the greatest needs remain in the districts of Lemba and Me-Zochi which have about 9,000 people affected out of a total of 15,000 according to the country's population data.
