Comments: | The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Lao PDR issued urgent flood warnings on 22 July 2024, due to Tropical Cyclone Prapiroon moving across the central South China Sea and passing through Hainan Island. At the same time, a strong southwest monsoon affected central and southern regions, leading to widespread moderate to heavy rains and rising water levels in tributaries. From 23 to 31 July 2024, heavy rainfall, driven by a low-pressure system and strong southwest winds, caused floods and landslides across northern and central regions.
According to the recent report from the NDMC gathered from 22 July to 8 August 2024, the persistent heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flooding and landslides across six provinces in Lao PDR, which included Luang Prabang, Huaphan, Xiengkhuang, Borlikhamxay, Khammuane, and Salavan province. Luang Prabang, Huaphan, and Xiengkhuang province have been the most severely impacted by floods and landslides |
