From 25 July to 3 August 2022, heavy rains caused flooding in some regions of Mauritania, notably Hodh El Gharbi, Assaba and Tagant in the south and centre-east of Mauritania. The floods caused extensive material damage to 4,821 households(28,926 people). It also caused the death of 14 people, most of them children. 3,817 houses were destroyed and a loss of 766 head of livestock was recorded.
