The Karthala Volcano began showing signs of increased activity in the evening of Sunday 28 May. Populations of the island witnessed a red glow in the sky above the crater. The authorities have activated the national emergency response preparedness plan. In this respect, an emergency task force has been established, which includes government departments, UN agencies and the Comoros Red Crescent Society.
