At least 13 persons were killed and more than 100,000 persons were displaced due to flash floods and earth slides triggered by heavy rains in central and southern Sri Lanka. The deaths were caused by landslides in the Walapane area, 180 kilometres east of the capital where more than 450 houses were damaged or destroyed.
