Comments: After two weeks of continuous heavy raining, the rise of the water level in Padma River caused major damage to the riverbank, eventually leading to the collapse of a large river embankment. The homes of about 8,710 families (or 43,550 people) got washed away by the collapse. Additionally, many roads, bridges, culverts, health facilities, and business amenities were completely destroyed.
