Heavy rainfalls (up to 28.4 mm) has started since July 3 and are still on going as of July 8. As a result, major rivers around Ulaanbaatar are flooding and flash floods are caused. In Ulaanbaatar, 26 locations have been flooded, and 6 central districts of Ulaanbaatar have been under a high level of readiness/alert since July 5.
On July 7, the Capital Emergency Commission warns that the impact of floods may extend leading to a projected number of 288,738 people affected (i.e. number of population from the at-risk areas), among which 11,033 people living the the ger districts are in need of support with evacuation.
In other parts of the country, flash floods occurred in four areas (soums) of Darkhan, Selenge, and Tuv provinces due to heavy rainfall. Days of torrential downpours have caused flooding in Serbia and Bosnia, forcing authorities to declare a state of emergency in many areas on Friday, with the rain not expected to let up for another day.
In Serbia, 1,300 rescuers and 22 boats were deployed to evacuate dozens of people in various locations, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Near the southwestern city of Kraljevo, a river tore away a bridge. In central Serbia, rescuers had to evacuate 12 people from their homes in Kragujevac due to the Lepenica river bursting its banks, said mayor Nikola Dasic, while 22 people were rescued from a village near the town of Jagodina.
Smaller rivers also burst their banks, cutting roads and power lines.
Rivers were also overflowing in eastern Bosnia, and authorities in the northeastern city of Tuzla declared an emergency in their entire region as people were forced to leave their homes in many towns and villages.
A landslide blocked a road near the town of Srebrenica, and there were warnings of possible flooding around the capital, Sarajevo. |

In 15th of June, Gurjaani, a municipality in Georgia, experienced a significant disaster resulting from heavy rainfall, flooding, and hailstorms. The disaster impacted various areas within Gurjaani, affecting both urban and rural settlements. As a consequence of the heavy rainfall, the central streets of Gurjaani municipality and surrounding areas were flooded, causing severe difficulties in transportation and mobility. In addition, the sudden mudflows and landslides resulted in the destruction of roads, blockages caused by fallen trees, and damage to vital infrastructure such as bridges and power transmission towers. Gurjaani, Chumlaki, Tchandari, Vejini, Dzirkoki, Kolagi, Bakurtsikhe, Kodalo villages were flooded, and other state infrastructure such as bridges and inland roads, and power transmission towers were damaged. The disaster also had a detrimental impact on the agricultural sector, with flooding damaging agricultural lands and destroying crops. This has significant implications for the livelihoods of the affected population, as agriculture serves as a crucial source of income for many households in Gurjaani. During the Gurjaani disaster, the heavy flooding had a profound impact on the affected households. As families typically stored basic household items and food on the first floor, the floodwaters resulted in significant damage to essential supplies, appliances, furniture, and various household items. This loss added to the already challenging situation faced by the affected population |

The cholera outbreak started on the 12th of February, in Chegutu town, which has a population of 66,258 within the Mashonaland West Province of Zimbabwe. The suspected case was confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) on the 15th of February while a second case was reported, again in Chegutu town on the 17th of February.This saw the Government set up a Cholera treatment centre in Chegutu. By the 26th of February, 37 suspected cholera cases with 2 confirmed positive cases and no deaths were reported in Chegutu district. As of the 18th of April 2023, there had been 579 suspected cholera cases reported, of which 102 were culture confirmed, and 9 deaths (CFR 1.6%). The situation was stable until the last SITREP of 1st June 2023 showing an ascendant curve in cases and death since late May to 1st June.The cases have now been reported from all the ten provinces of the country, without epidemiological link to each other. By the 18th of April, there had been 168 RDTs (Rapid diagnostic tests) conducted with 73/168 positive (42 % positivity) and 104/359 positive cultures (29 % positivity). Although this cholera outbreak occurred outside the rainy season, it mimicked the previous cholera outbreak of 2018 that started in the same town and spread to other hotspots within the country. To date, 17 cholera hotspot districts in the country have been severely affected and cases are on the rise. The MoHCC, through the Zimbabwe Cholera SitRep of 28 May 2023, reports a cumulative total of 1649 suspected cholera cases, 423 confirmed cases, 1528 recoveries, 11 confirmed deaths and 33 suspected deaths. |

Between 2 and 4 June 2023, the Dominican Republic experienced numerous incidents of urban and rural flooding, river overflowing, and landslides. The National Meteorological Office (ONAMET) attributed these events to the presence of a trough at various levels of the troposphere, along with the passage of a tropical wave over the Caribbean Sea. These weather phenomena led to increased humidity and instability, resulting in heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong wind gusts. The affected areas spanned several provinces, including Azua, Barahona,
Bahoruco, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Espaillat, Independencia, La Vega, Pedernales, Santiago, and Santiago Rodríguez.
The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) issued nationwide alerts based on this information. |

[…] The reports of Moroccan Locust outbreak in Afghanistan's wheat basket is a huge concern. The flood hit 19 provinces including East-Azarbaijan, West-Azarbayejan, Ardebil, Esfahan, Alborz, Tehran, Khorasan
Shomali, Khorasan Jonobi, Khuzestan, Semnan, Zanjan, Ghazvin, Qom, Kerman, Lorestan, Mazandaran, Markazi,
Hamedan and Yazd. Over 3,050 individuals are directly impacted by the disaster and received emergency services
by the IRCS. Almost 80 persons were evacuated by the IRCS rapid response teams and 10 were referred to the
medical clinics. 250 houses were de-watered and de-slugged by mobilizing of 138 operational teams (526 personnel)
including of 162 staff and 364 volunteers. IRCS deployed its light and heavy fleet including of 39 ambulances and 95
rescue vehicles.
During this flooding, some of the main roads in Alborz and Ghazvin provinces were totally blocked by the mud and
transportation was hindered. In some areas, the roads are collapsed which needed the operational personnel to
be working with other government agencies to facilitate access for the people. Search and rescue teams from the
provincial branches also were deployed to evacuate the missing people. The local people in some rural areas were
forced to relocate and moved to safer areas. Under the Helal Houses, some local actors informed and refrained the
passengers to being imposed by the flood. |

In the context of Nepal, Dengue cases usually increase from July coinciding with the monsoon season falling in
between June and September, with the majority of cases being reported during September. Hence, the approximate
impact will be from August to September 2023. This year, as per epidemiological data collected until April 2023, around 600 cases have been diagnosed which is highly alarming considering the usual incidence pattern in Nepal.
Until April 2023, 600 dengue (EWARS report, EDCD), cases has already been diagnosed which is highly alarming as this is the very first time that dengue has occurred in the consecutive year in contrary to the usual cyclical pattern of dengue incidence in Nepal.
On average, 20-30 cases of dengue have been found
each week in different regions of Nepal.

Nigeria is currently experiencing a large outbreak of Lassa fever, with 4702 suspected cases, five probable cases, and 877 confirmed cases between epidemiological weeks 1 and 15 of 2023 (week ending 16 April). Among confirmed cases, there have been 152 deaths (CFR 17%). Lassa fever is endemic in Nigeria and parts of West Africa where the multimammate rat, the main reservoir of the Lassa virus, is common. Responding to the current outbreak is challenging due to the need to respond to multiple emergencies simultaneously. |

On 23 May, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) from Argentina decreed a Yellow Alert for strong storms for the provinces of Santa Fe, Córdoba, Entre Ríos and some areas of the Province of Buenos Aires, and an Orange Alert for the same threat in several areas of the center and east of the Province of Buenos Aires. Starting on 24 May, the municipality of Quilmes, province of Buenos Aires, particularly the southeast of the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) and on the coast of the La Plata River, was affected by heavy rains, with an accumulated rainfall of approximately 100 millimeters. As a result of these events, streams overflowed causing flooding in several areas of
the municipality.
On 26 May, new rains occurred over the city, generating greater affectations. Product of these new events, streets, roads and houses were flooded generating power outages and failure in drinking water supplies. A total of 12 neighborhoods settled on the banks of the Piedras, Santo Domingo and San Francisco streams were affected. The local Undersecretary of Emergencies and Civil Protection, with the support of the Quilmes Volunteer Fire Department, evacuated approximately 140 people who were temporarily housed in 4 shelters distributed in the western area of the municipality. |

In a span of 6 days, from 01 May 2023 to 17 May 2023, there were two consecutive events in Emilia-Romagna that resulted in a total of 80 hours of rainfall. After the first event, managed at the regional and local levels, applying the contingency plans previously defined, and closed a second, out-of-scale event, happened. There have been 379 landslides in 57 municipalities, with 672 road closures, including 414 complete closures, leaving parts of the rural area isolated. There are 23,000 evacuees distributed among Ravenna, Forlì, Bologna, and Rimini. In Conselice, due to the particular geographical situation, the community has been hit three times. Strong intervention is also needed in Faenza, where water has reached the second floor of some houses. |

On Monday 15 May 2023, torrential rain accompanied by violent winds hit Franceville, the chief town of the Haut Ogooué Province in Gabon, causing extensive damage. The damage affected a large number of families, as well as public and private infrastructures, destroying schools, shops and electricity poles.
Nearly 3,000 people, or 500 households are affected, with almost 200 homes destroyed or swept away by the violent winds that accompanied the rains. Several businesses were also affected, as were schools and administrative buildings.
Some of the victims found refuge with relatives, friends and acquaintances. The public authorities also visited the disaster sites. The city's 1st and 3rd districts were the worst hit, and the rain keeps falling on Franceville |
