CW-1996-000009-CHN Cold Wave China, People's Republic According to the Ministry of Civil Affairs in Beijing, since the end of 1995, many counties in Yushu prefecture of Ginghai province and Ganzi prefecture of Sichuan province, both in mountainous areas of 4000-5000 metres above sea level, have been struck by record low temperatures and unusually heavy snowfalls. Many settlements have been isolated by snow drifts. In Yushu prefecture, 72,000 people from 5 counties have been affected. 
TC-1996-000008-PHL Tropical Cyclone Philippines Typhoon Gloria, the sixth major storm to hit the Philippines (in 1996), affected the Northern Luzon provinces causing flashfloods and landslides. The typhoon, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the centre and gustiness up to 150 kph, is expected to move northwest towards Batanes in the direction of southern Taiwan. The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) of the Philippines provided a consolidated report on the impact of the typhoon as of 26 July, 0500 hrs. A total of 7,152 families (36,815 persons) were affected in ten provinces (Quezon, Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, Batanes, La Union, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur). Twenty persons were killed and six reported missing in the National Capital Region, Cordillera Autonomous Region, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Batangas. In the Mt. Pinatubo area, two foot and five foot high lahar flows were reported in the Sacobia and Pasig-Potrero rivers. Authorities have issued a full lahar alert in Pampanga and the rest of Central Luzon.

Flood,Algeria: Between 19 and 22 January 2026, heavy rainfall linked to Storm Harry triggered flash floods across more than 20 wilayas in north-western and central Algeria, with Relizane and Chlef among the most affected areas. The floods inundated low-lying neighborhoods, damaged homes and infrastructure, caused four fatalities, and disrupted access to basic services, affecting an estimated 6,000 people and prompting emergency response by the Algerian Red Crescent

Tropical Cyclone,Madagascar: A new tropical cyclone named FYTIA formed over the northern Mozambique Channel on 29 January in the afternoon (UTC) and started moving east toward Madagascar as a tropical storm. On 30 January at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore approximately 210 km west of the town of Vilamasta (north-western Madagascar), with maximum sustained winds of 116 km/h (tropical storm).

Flood,Congo Democratic Republic: GDACS - Medium humanitarian impact in for Democratic Republic of Congo.Local media, local authorities and the national government in the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported landslides and a major mine collapse occurred on 28 January 2026 at the Luwowo site, within the Rubaya mining perimeter in Masisi territory, North Kivu Province. Local media speculated the landslide was caused by recent heavy rains. In a statement made on 31 January, the national government blamed illegal, unsafe artisanal mining for the collapse. The area has seen repeated deadly incidents, the government said.
