Comments: Monday 24 January 2022, sporadic gunfire was heard from the Ballen Village, Foni Kansala, West Coast Region in The Gambia, not far from the Gambia/Casamance border. According to GRCS communication officer, and also from residents in the Foni communities, the Senegalese ECOMIG troops (ECcomonic Community of Africa States -OWAS peace keeping forceMission in The Gambia)( ECOMIG) attempted to confiscate or seize a truck carrying wood logs. The situation is still unfolding, but as for now, GRCS record shows that two ECOMIG soldiers were killed .killed. They were handed over to GRCS ERT, who transported them from Casamance to the ECOMIG head office /Military barracks in Fajara, The Gambia.. The reports further reveal nine missing soldiers are probably held hostage by the MFDC and nine are reportedly injured. multiple exchange of gunfire culminated in tension and insecurity that caused violence of all kinds and displacement of people. Because of this sudden clash, the region remains in a state of economic depression, extreme poverty and stop all livelihood activities that could efficiently meet the basic social needs of the IDPs and host population. From visit in the affected the host communities to get first-hand information from the field, the communities visited were Kampants where the rebels previously mounted their check points, Bwiam police station and Bujinga who hosted more than 100 ofs of IDPs.
