Comments: GDACS - Medium Humanitarian impact in Bangladesh. Tropical Storm Sitrang made landfall on 24 October 2022 near Rangabali upazila (sub-district) of Patuakhali district, Bangladesh. Sitrang then weakened to a Tropical Depression moving northwards over Bangladesh, and further dissipating on 25 October. Some coastal areas were flooded due to storm surge in areas of Bagerhat, Bhola, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Barisal and Chittagong Districts. GDACS / HWRF reported storm surge of 1 to 1.5 metres. Bangladesh Red Crescent said rain and thundershowers swept over the other parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka. UNOCHA said more than 219,000 people evacuated to temporary storm shelters. According to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), 10,000 houses and 6,000 hectares of crops were damaged. Another 1,000 fish enclosures were destroyed. At least 35 people died (according to media reports). Need Assessment Working Group (NAWG) reported 1.5 million people affected, mostly in Bhola, Bagerhat, Barguna, Cox's Bazar, Khulna, Patuakhali districts. Note: Media reported most fatalities and much of the damage was a result of wind damage. however, official data didn't differentiate between wind or flood damage.
