Comments: | Severe flooding in Sabah began on 8 March 2025, escalating rapidly due to continuous heavy rainfall. Over the past several days, significant water level rises in major rivers across Tenom, Keningau, and Beaufort have led to widespread flooding. The Padas River (Sungai Padas), the main waterway connecting these districts, has overflowed its banks, severely impacting low-lying communities. In total, six districts have been affected: Beaufort, Membakut, Keningau, Sook, Tenom, and Kemabong.
Continuous heavy rainfall has also triggered landslides in several areas, further complicating the situation by affecting key roads, including the Tenom-Keningau main road, Jalan Pamilan, Jalan Tenom-Kuala Tomani, and Jalan Pekan Melalap, which are now only accessible by heavy vehicles.
The rising floodwaters reached considerable heights in some areas, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate their homes. As a result, 31 temporary evacuation centres were activated to provide shelter. By 9 March 2025, the flood situation had worsened, with 4,555 individuals from 1,493 families displaced. |
