Since 7 April 2026, a trough system has been affecting the Dominican Republic, generating intense rainfall and prolonged atmospheric instability across the national territory. As a result, the National Emergency Operations Centre (Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias - COE) issued alerts for 28 provinces (4 on red alert, 17 on yellow alert, and 7 on green alert) due to the risk of urban and flash flooding (COE, Situation Reports, latest update 16 April 2026). The situation reached a critical point on 12 April 2026, resulting in 10 reported fatalities.
